Attention, SA students! You can get Apple Music for less

If you’re a university student we know that A) you’re probably off on holiday right now (you lucky sods) and B) you’re in the market for some music on the cheap to wile away the time.

To that end we have some good news; Apple Music is now offering Student Subscriptions locally.

Student Subscriptions aren’t entirely new. They were announced earlier this year in May but the regions covered only included the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, Germany, Denmark, New Zealand and Ireland.

Apple has now decided to extend Student Subscriptions to a further 25 new regions including South Africa, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Chile, Colombia, Finland, France, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, Norway, Russia, Switzerland, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, and the UAE.

The move seems to be Apple’s latest salvo in its battle for music subscription supremacy with Spotify, which also offers lower-rate subscriptions for students. Since Spotify isn’t currently available in South Africa – unless you’re prepared to apply a few workarounds – Apple may have this market all to itself if the streaming music service ever decides to launch here.

Right, that’s the boring corporate stuff out the way, you probably want to know how to take advantage of this deal.

There’s no link to student rates as yet on Apple Music ZA as yet, but According to Mashable the price is likely to be half of the usual subscription – and that currently stands at R59.99 a month.

Also, Apple Music is partnered with UNiDAYS, in order to verify that users are enrolled as a student so, while you’re waiting for the offer to go live, you might want to pop along to its website to register.
