Arduino powered and 3D printed lighthouse to guide you home

Okay here’s a weird one: a small, functional lighthouse that was 3D printed that can light up your house thanks to an Arduino.

This strange project comes from a maker named Anton Foltz who states that he wanted to test out his new large 3D printer.

To do so he printed out an existing model that is hosted on Thingiverse. That lighthouse appears to be smaller and uses a custom circuit to rotate a light just like the real thing.

Foltz’s bigger version took 14 hours to print and uses an Arduino instead. See it in action in this short video:

To get to there, after printing the pieces Foltz had to sand and paint the lighthouse to get the desired look.

The circuitry is a simple Arduino setup with LEDs and a halogen bulb. All the files to 3D print your own lighthouse as well as circuit diagrams and the code needed is available on hackster.io.

We’re not sure what’s so appealing about this build. Maybe it’s because it reminds us of BioShock after the remaster was released recently and instructions for LEGO versions of the characters started popping up.  Oh, now someone needs to make a version that shoots a little rocket like at the beginning of BioShock Infinite.
