Parly to begin inquiry into Maguvhe as sole remaining SABC board member

Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Communications will finally begin its inquiry into the SABC board’s fitness to hold office today.

Effectively this means the inquiry will be held to determine if only one person, Mbulaheni Maguvhe, the only remaining non-executive member of the board, is fit to hold his position.

The inquiry was meant to kick off last week, but was postponed when Maguvhe launched an urgent interdict at the Western Cape High Court to halt it, due to a number of reasons stated, including that some members of the inquiry are biased against the SABC..

The court dismissed the interdict, ruling in favour of Parliament’s decision to proceed.

Today’s session is expected to run from 9am to 6pm.

The inquiry is expected to round up either later this month or early in January.
