You can now stream The Grand Tour on Amazon Prime Video in SA

Good news, as James May would say back in the days of Top Gear, Amazon Prime Video is now available to South Africans.

The video-on-demand service is the lastest international offering to land on our shores after Netflix made its service available here at the start of 2016 and ShowMax – the local video-on-demand service – launched in 2015.

Amazon Prime Video brings with it Amazon Original series which include Mozart in the Jungle and the highly anticipated motoring show, The Grand Tour.

The Grand Tour features Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May. The trio left BBC’s Top Gear after Jeremy Clarkson’s contract was not renewed following an altercation with a producer.

Not so Prime pricing

The service has launched with a rather aggressive pricing model. A subscription – if you pick on up now – will cost $2.99 (R40.87) for the first six months and you get a 30-trial period to test it out. After the first six months you will start paying $5.99 (R81.87).

Comparing that pricing, Amazon Prime Video’s monthly subscription is much cheaper than Netflix (prices start at $7.99) or ShowMax (R99) but before you cancel your subscription to those services you may want to check out what content Amazon  Prime Video has on offer.

With that having been said you can now watch The Grand Tour without having to download or stream it illegally.

And on that bombshell, we want to know from you, is seeing Jeremy Clarkson and the team once more worth R40 – R80 a month? Let us know in the comments.
