Motsoeneng implicated in alleged procurement fraud at the SABC

A whistleblower has handed over documents to EWN that allege procurement fraud has taken place at the SABC.

The documents reportedly show that a tender for the refurbishment of a multi-purpose studio was canceled and instead awarded to a firm by the name of Vision View. The figures presented in the document appear to be “grossly over inflated” according to EWN.

At the centre of the alleged fraud is former executive Hlaudi Motsoeneng and acting chief executive officer, James Aguma (Aguma was the chief financial officer at the time) both of whose names appear on the cancellation of the valid tender.

It is alleged that the tender was cancelled as a part of a collusive deal to award R42 million to refurbish the aforementioned studio.

Whistleblowers suspended

The report by EWN goes on to say that individuals who attempted to bring details of this fraud to light were suspended. It is further alleged that when SABC group executive Tian Olivier attempted to inform the SABC board about fraud at the SABC, the letter he penned regarding such was intercepted and Olivier was suspended.

Details surrounding this story are as yet still thin on the ground and we will update this story as and when we receive additional information.
