Students can access university websites for free until February with Cell C

Earlier this year Telkom, MTN and Cell C announced that they would allow universities to apply to zero-rate traffic to their websites.

This initiative was launched while #FeesMustFall protests were in full swing and many students were unable to attend classes due to fears of violence on campus.

“We know students are facing a tough time at the moment, and many need to gain access to course material through their university’s online portal in order to complete their academic year. Zero-rating access is our way of assisting students,” Cell C chief executive officer, Jose Dos Santos said at the time.

Now Cell C has announced that it will be extending this offer until the end of February 2017. The network operator says that the decision was made after universities approached it requesting that students who were unable to write exams this year be given the chance to access course material so they can complete their academic year.

Students at the following universities will be able to access the university’s websites without incurring data costs provided they have a Cell C SIM card.

  • Cape Peninsula University of Technology
  • Central University of Technology
