Xiaomi’s latest TV is as thin as a smartphone

Ultra thin televisions seem to be all the rage at CES 2017 and Xiaomi has added its own TV to the mix.

The Chinese firm, which is known for making smartphones, rice cookers and air purifiers is showing off a TV that is an astounding 4.9mm thin.

The Mi TV 4 – as it’s known – will be available in 49, 55 and 65inch iterations but sadly it’s unclear whether the TV will be made available outside of China at time of writing.

What’s interesting about the Mi TV 4 is that the panel is separate from the components. The panel connects to the Mi TV Bar which contains the motherboard and the sound system.

The bar has support for Dolby Atmos surround sound and contains 10 speakers and can have additional speakers and a subwoofer added to the aural array without the need for wires.

The firm says that this separation of the panel from the components will allow users to upgrade their TV’s without needing to replace the entire unit.

All of the cables also connect to the Mi TV Bar and the Bar connects to the TV through one cable.

Xiaomi has said that the Mi TV 4 will retail for “under $2 000” when it goes on sale in China later this year.
