AG Mobile has reportedly been liquidated

Local smartphone and tablet manufacturer, AG Mobile, has reportedly been liquidated.

In an exclusive conversation with Gearburn, AG Mobile Chief Executive Officer, Anthony Goodman confirmed the sad news.

“AG has been liquidated,” Goodman told Gearburn.

The news comes as shock largely because the firm has been doing business since 1994 and has now seemingly gone into liquidation without so much as a whisper.

Navigating to the AG Mobile website presents a holding page announcing that the URL is “Soon to be the new home of… www.agmobileafrica.com”.

Similarly the brand’s Facebook page and Twitter profile have been stagnant since August 2016 though a number of customers have used the channels to voice their dissatisfaction with the brand.

In an attempt to contact AG Mobile, htxt.africa has reached dead-end after dead-end. The contact number provided on the Facebook page rings endlessly but we will continue to try contacting to brand to gather additional details.

In 2016 the brand partnered with local hip-hop artist Cassper Nyovest to launch a sub-R4 000 smartphone called the #Hashtag.

The firm also launched it’s Freedom range of smartphones and tablets in 2016.

AG Mobile said at the time that it would donate a percentage of the profits made from sales of the Freedom range to the Long Walk To Freedom Foundation. This donation would be used by the foundation to bring technology into schools that could not afford it.
