Turn an RC car into a mouse droid from Star Wars with this 3D print

The humble MSE-6-series repair droid – or simply “mouse droid” – may not be the first of robot in the Star Wars universe that leaps to mind, even though it’s in one of the franchise’s most memorable scenes.

See? Well, now it’s received some more attention in the form of a 3D print.

Created by user “Treespirit“, this mouse droid is meant to be placed on the chassis of a 1:24 scale RC car. This version you see here was made autonomous with the addition of an Arduino and a few sensors, but simply putting it on top of an regular chassis works fine too. Two wooden bars and some hot glue is apparently all you’ll need to get the two to fit.

You can download the needed files to 3D print the body from either Pinshape or Thingiverse. It’s also advised you follow some additional instructions provided by this PDF hosted on DropBox for the assembly process.

Unfortunately we couldn’t find a video of the droid in action, Treespirit didn’t provide one and one of the users on Pinshape who also created one didn’t either. If you did, make sure you show us on Twitter or Facebook.

While a controllable RC droid is the intended use here, we feel like someone should adapt it to fit onto a Roomba. Having an automated droid clean our floor would get us ever closer to living out our Star Wars dreams.
