ShowMax makes the leap to Europe

It’s turning out to be a busy year for ShowMax.

Not only has Nasper’s streaming media service partnered with SEACOM to offer a better experience to consumers, it recently introduced a pay-as-you-view deal locally.

For its next trick, ShowMax has decided to plant its flag in Europe, starting with Poland. Yes, you read that correctly.

ShowMax has launched in Poland and, as is the case whenever the service touches down in a specific country, the content aimed squarely at the nation’s market, featuring a ton of local content. To convince the locals to part with their hard earned cash, ShowMax has not only acquired exclusive rights to stream a range of popular Polish shows, it’s also commissioned brand new shows from local producers.

Heading up ShowMax’s Warsaw division is Google executive Maciej Sojka who ran YouTube partnerships for Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The team also includes  Grzegorz Esz (ex-UPC Polska and T-Mobile) and Jerzy Dzięgielewski (ex-HBO Central Europe).

“This is a big deal for us, especially coming just 18 months after we launched ShowMax. With more than seven million people paying for online video in Poland and an overall population of more than 38 million, this is an exciting market,” said ShowMax, CEO John Kotsaftis said.
