If you know what -[——->+ means, you can win a place at WeThinkCode_

Johannesburg-based IT college WeThinkCode_ is trying out a new way to sift through would-be-developers: a break the code challenge.

If you head on over to the WeThinkCode_ Facebook page today you’ll see three #breakTheCode challenges that appear to be a mess of characters and symbols. The first challenge looks something like this.

-[——->+<]>.>–[—–>+<]>.[—>+<]>–.–[->++++<]>+.—-——.++++++.-[—->+<]>+++.-–[->++++<]>+.——-.——––.+.+++++++++++++.+.+.+[->+++<]>++.+++++++++++++.———-.-[—>+<]>-.—[->++++<]>.————.+.++++++++++.+[—->+<]>+++.+[—–>+<]>.——–.[—>+<]>—-..++[->+++<]>++.++++++.–.–[—>+<]>-.–[->++++<]>-.-[->+++<]>-.++++++++.+++++++++++.[—->+<]>+++.++[->+++<]>.+++++++++.+++.[–>+++++<]>+++.++[->+++<]>.-[—>+<]>–.—.++.————.—.+++++++++++++.[–>+++++<]>+++.-[—>++<]>-.+++++.+++++.+.–.+++.+[->+++<]>+.-[—>+<]>–.——-—-.++++++.-.+++++.+[–>+++++<]>-.

While this looks like a kitten walked over a keyboard to us, there are folks that will find meaning in the code above. The first person to correctly decipher this and other codes will win themselves a spot at the WeThinkCode_ April Bootcamp.

Shortly after that code was dropped two more surfaced but these contained a mixture of letters, numbers and symbols.

The four week long bootcamp will challenge students to solve programming problems and is described as “intense” by the college so be prepared to be tested.

You can check out all the codes on the WeThinkCode_ Facebook page where they are available as images and as plain text.

Good luck to all who attempt to break these codes.
