Samsung is on a roll with its Gear of the Year reader wins: the latest is the company’s massively popular TallBoy home theatre system, model J5550K, which earned itself a whopping 43.2% of our readers’ votes. The next-closest system was Yamaha’s NS-SP1800BL 5.1-Channel Home Theatre with 28.2% of the votes.

But when your home theatre system is nicely affordable, features some of the best surround sound technologies like Dolby Digital Plus, DTS Digital Surround and the ability to play back just about any media file format you can think of including 3D Blu-rays, it’s no surprise it finds a lot of favour with South Africans.

And of course the J5550K comes with WiFi and wired connectivity options, as well as many enhancements when connected to the internet like the ability to run Samsung’s large collection of apps. DLNA certification is standard as well, which as any home user knows means it can stream easily to any other DLNA-certified device.

With all of that in its favour and more under the hood, it’s no wonder the J5550K won by a landslide.
