SABC ad hoc committee hopeful it will adopt final report tomorrow

After two days of going through written responses and objections from witnesses, the ad hoc committee on the SABC inquiry may reach a conclusion.

Committee chair, Vincent Smith, announced yesterday that he’s confident that everything is still well on track and hopeful that the committee will conclude and adopt the final report by Friday.

Witnesses, including the Minister of Communications, Faith Muthambi, SABC management, current and former SABC employees and the Auditor General of South Africa (AGSA), had until 16th February to respond to the draft report in writing.

Former SABC COO, Hlaudi Motsoeneng, who was not called as a witness, sent a letter through his lawyer protesting the decision not to call him to testify during the inquiry.

The committee will deliberate on the findings and recommendations today at 2pm in Parliament’s Old Assembly Chamber.

It is expected that the final report will be in the hands of the Portfolio Committee on Communications by next week.
