Twitter is bringing esports events straight to your timeline

Esports is set to join the continous stream of content flooding Twitter as the micro-blogging site announces new partnerships with ESL and Dreamhack.

The partnership will see some 1 500 hours of content being streamed through the service starting on 4th March with ESL’s Intel Extreme Masters Katowice.

Twitter will stream this and other content to its 313 million users via bespoke URLS which will allow fans to not only stream their favourite esports but engage on the platform at the same time via the web or the Twitter mobile app.

The user interface is rather slick but we would like a “night mode” option.

“By partnering with the leading esports companies like ESL and DreamHack, we look forward to bringing the best of esports live video and conversation together on Twitter,” Twitter chief operations officer Anthony Noto said in a statement.

During Dreamhack Austin in April fans of Counter Strike: Global Offensive, StarCraft II, Street Fighter V and Hearthstone will be able to stream live esports events directly from Twitter.

Twitter will sell advertising that will air during the events and advertisers will also be able to sponsor highlight reels and recap clips.

Our question to you is with well established services such as Twitch and YouTube Gaming around would you make use of Twitter’s streaming service? Let us know in the comments below.
