GINX eSports TV is coming to DStv subscribers in May

If you happen to be an esports fan that doesn’t have internet access we have some good news for you.

Supersport has announced that it has signed a deal with GINX eSports TV in the UK to bring competitive gaming to the living rooms of South Africans from 1st May.

GINX covers all manner of esports, from StarCraft 2 to Dota 2 and even FIFA. If you’ve never watched professionals go at it for glory, fame and a sizeable payout and you love games we urge you to give esports a shot, it can be quite fun.

Now to be clear, GINX won’t be available to watch 24/7 on your TV but you will be able to stream the content all day via DStv Now and Supersport.com.

Select content such as the live show The Bridge will be broadcast on Supersport channels on Mondays and Fridays and fans will be able to watch five hours of GINX in their living rooms on Saturdays and Sundays.

“We’re delighted to bring GINX eSports TV to South Africa. It’s an exciting time to be launching in a country with such a rapidly growing eSports scene,” chief executive officer of GINX eSports TV, Michiel Bakker said in a statement.

To access GINX online you’ll need to have a DStv Access, Family, Compact, Extra or Premium subscription.

We could lament the choice of Supersport trying to compete with Twitch by launching an esports channel but we’d like to give Supersport a round of applause.

This move could make esports more accessible to more people especially in South Africa where internet connectivity – and by extension the ability to stream esports – is not guaranteed.

So thanks Supersport, and here’s to a future where South Africans braai and watch South Korea annihilate the rest of the world in StarCraft 2.
