Uber’s president is stepping down

The first quarter of 2017 has been a rough one for Uber and the hits just keep on coming with the announcement from its president, Jeff Jones, that he’s leaving the firm.

Jones’ departure has been confirmed by both himself and chief executive officer Travis Kalanick. The president leaves just six months after joining Uber.

The president states that his reason for departure comes down to inconsistencies he’s experienced while working for Uber.

“I joined Uber because of its Mission, and the challenge to build global capabilities that would help the company mature and thrive long-term,” said Jones in a statement published by Recode.

“It is now clear, however, that the beliefs and approach to leadership that have guided my career are inconsistent with what I saw and experienced at Uber, and I can no longer continue as president of the ride sharing business.”

Uber’s CEO sent a memo out to staff shortly after the news of Jones’ departure praising the president for the work he did in his short time at the firm.

“In 6 months, he made an important impact on the company—from his focus on being driver obsessed to delivering our first brand reputation study, which will help set our course in the coming months and year,” said Kalanick.

After allegations of sexual harassment, theft and Kalanick’s verbal abuse of a driver earlier this year, the president of the firm cannot be good for Uber. The question now is, will Uber survive 2017? Time will tell.
