Refreshed iPad, Red iPhone and more storage for the iPhone SE incoming

There are a few new Apple products on the way, but they aren’t technically new.

The iPad, iPhone 7 and iPhone SE have all been given a makeover of sorts.

The new iPad is a 9.7inch tablet that will boast an A9 processor and a brighter Retina display. It houses an 8MP snapper at the rear and an “HD” FaceTime camera at the front. All of this is powered by a battery that should last 10 hours according to Apple.

The new iPad will be available for order from 24th March in the US and will cost $329 (~R4173) but expect it to cost a bit more when it lands in SA.

The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are also getting a refresh that’s just a lick of paint. Sales of the special edition of the iPhone 7 nicknamed (Product) Red will see Apple contributing to Red, the HIV/AIDS charity started by Bono.

It’s unclear at this stage whether this red iPhone 7 will be available in South Africa but we will update this story when we find out.

Finally, and perhaps the best Apple related news we’ve heard today, is that the firm is scrapping the 16GB iPhone SE. The smaller iPhone will now be available in 32GB and 128GB iterations. The 64GB has also been scrapped for those interested.

These are all very small and some would say pointless upgrades, but perhaps the new iPad might help Apple regain some popularity in the market.

In 2016 Apple reported a 19% decline in iPad sales year-on-year which translates into a decline of $1.5 billion in revenue year-on-year. Perhaps a cheaper tablet is the key to making the iPad profitable again.

Here’s hoping, for Apple’s sake at least.
