Confirmed: Old WhatsApp status message hits Android & iPhone next week

Last week, we wrote about reports on WhatsApp old status message feature making a comeback after an uproar from users who aren’t feeling the new multimedia status feature. Now, it’s been confirmed that the old feature returns next week.

The change was part of Facebook’s unspoken campaign to take on Snapchat head on by implementing disappearing multimedia across all it’s social media.

According to TechCrunch, the old status message will rollout to Android over the next week and be released to iPhone users soon after that.

You’ll be able to set your status by opening the “About” section on your profile and you’ll see your contacts’ statuses by tapping their profile when starting a new chat thread or looking at group chat info.

“We heard from our users that people missed the ability to set a persistent text-only update in their profile, so we’ve integrated this feature into the ‘About’ section in profile settings. Now, the update will appear next to profile names anytime you view contacts, such as when creating a new chat or looking at Group info. At the same time, we’re continuing to build on the new status feature that gives people fun and engaging ways to share photos, videos and GIFs with their friends and family throughout their day,” WhatsApp said in a statement.
