Afrika Tikkun and Workonline partnership brings the internet to over 7 000 people

Back in August 2016 Workonline Communications and non-governmental organisation (NGO) Afrika Tikkun announced a partnership that would address the NGO’s connectivity woes.

As part of the partnership, Workonline provided high-speed internet to Afrika Tikkun’s centres. The connectivity was delivered through last-mile solutions provided by Sonic Telecoms and BSIT.

Stable internet connectivity has helped the NGO provide internet access to 7 440 citizens through its Alexander and Mfuleni centres.

For those that aren’t aware, Afrika Tikkun is focused on developing young people “from cradle to career” through education, holistic development, skills development and work placement.

Following this improved internet Afrika Tikkun reports that it saw Matric results improve by 4% and 64 distinctions were awarded. The organisation says that its Mfuleni centre saw a 100% matric pass rate for the first time in five years. Anyway you slice it, that’s fantastic news.

Speaking about the results of the sponsorship, group executive at Afrika Tikkun, Onyi Nwaneri says Workonline has helped the NGO improve service delivery.

“We have been able to improve computer literacy through the use of the Internet in all the communities in which we operate, and have implemented an e-learning programme targeted at unemployed youth in all our centres, in partnership with Workonline and ABSA,” Nwaneri says.

“Access to the internet is a vital key to unlocking wealth in our increasingly digital world.”
