Outa calls for SABC interim board to sack Hlaudi

If you’ve been following the career of one Hlaudi Mostoeneng (and if you haven’t, what’s wrong with you?), you’ll know he landed in hot water last week for holding a rather surreal press conference.

If you missed it, have a gander below. It really does need to be seen to be believed and once digested, it won’t surprise anyone to learn that it made social media light up like a Christmas tree.

It may also not surprise anyone to learn that, following this presser, the DA called for Hlaudi Mostoeneng to be sacked and the SABC interim board, for its part, announced that it was going ahead with advertising his former position and putting some of his policies under review.

Now, the Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (Outa) has added its voice to the calls for the SABC interim board to fire Motsoeneng.

In a statement released this morning, Outa applauded the interim board’s decision to move swiftly to make sure a new leadership structure could be put in place as quickly as possible, but the group also made its position on Hlaudi as plain as day.

“We would like to see the interim board urgently proceed with finalising disciplinary proceedings against Mr Motsoeneng,” said Dominique Msibi, Outa’s Portfolio Manager.

“By doing so, Mr Motsoeneng’s current suspension could be terminated and the financially stressed SABC can cease to waste money on his exorbitant salary.”

If you don’t know, Hlaudi is the highest paid employee at the SABC, earning roughly R4.2 million per year. This is almost double the salary paid to President Jacob Zuma. Nice work if you can get it…
