Tinder’s most eligible bachelor is a 44 year old Northern White Rhino

Anybody browsing through Tinder over the last week may have noticed a rather horny male looking for love online, a Northern White Rhinoceros named Sudan.

While many would argue that Sudan is not unlike his male human counterparts on Tinder, the rhino’s presence on the dating app is a lot more important.

Sudan is the last male of his sub-species and if he and a female rhino don’t mate the species may be gone forever.

For that reason the Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya has partnered with Tinder to raise awareness about the plight of these rhino with a view to garnering $9 million in donations. These donations will be used to further research in the field of Assisted Reproductive Techniques.

“Once perfected, this technology, in particular in vitro fertilization (IVF), will aid to achieve successful pregnancies to gradually build up a viable herd of northern white rhinos,” the conservancy said in a blog post.

Donations can be made on Ol Pejeta’s website when users wipe right on Tinder. A GoFundMe page has also been set up and has already garnered over R500 000 in donations.

Being a Northern White Rhino is tough. With prices for the sub-species’ horns amounting to $50 000 per kilogram Sudan has a 24-hour security contingent surrounding him at all times to fend off poachers.

Does your latest Tinder match have that? We don’t think so.
