THQ Nordic confirms Darksiders 3 is currently in development

THQ Nordic have confirmed that the Darksiders franchise is not dead and that Darksiders 3 is currently in development.

Darksiders originally released in January 2010 and spawned a sequel in 2012. With THQ declaring bankruptcy and shutting down the Darksiders development studio Vigil Games in late 2012, the future of the franchise was uncertain.

Thanks to the formation of THQ Nordic in 2013 however, the Darksiders IP is still alive and well, and yesterday a brand new reveal trailer teasing Darksiders 3 was shown off via IGN. It’s real, it’s official and it’s coming soon.

Gunfire Games, a development studio made up of ex-Vigil Games employees is heading up the creation of Darksiders 3.

“As promised, we have taken our time to ensure that this next Darksiders will be everything action-adventure gamers and especially Darksiders loyalists could dream of and more,” said Lars Wingefors, Co-Founder and Group CEO, THQ Nordic AB.

“The Gunfire team brings an intimate involvement with every aspect of the Darksiders franchise since its inception,” said Reinhard Pollice, Director of Business and Product Development, THQ Nordic.

“There is simply no team better qualified to create Darksiders 3, beginning with our unpredictable and enigmatic hero FURY – a mage who is considered the most powerful of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse!”

Darksiders 3 is currently in development for PC, PlayStation4 and Xbox One, and is slated for release in 2018.
