Facebook inching closer to 2 billion user mark

Facebook is inching closer to tallying two billion monthly active users, CEO Mark Zuckerberg has revealed.

In a statement detailing the company’s first quarter 2017 financial results, Zuckerberg said the social network counted 1.94 billion monthly active users by 31st March, an increase of 17% year-over-year.

An average of 1.2 billion users are on Facebook on a daily basis, an increase of 18% year-over-year.

The new WhatsApp status messages, introduced in February, which allow users to set an image or video as their status which disappears after 24 hours, are now being used by 175 million users, despite its cold reception upon launch.

This means the feature is now bigger than Snapchat, which last recorded 161 million daily active users at the end of 2016.

Additionally, Instagram’s stories features is also bigger than Snapchat, recording 200 million daily active users recently.
