Local hip hop, pop and rock artists are getting some Deezer Next love

Music streaming service Deezer is giving local artists a way to reach more potential fans with Deezer Next.

This new initiative is described by the service as “a newly created programme aimed at identifying and championing emerging talent in addition to providing an avenue for exposure to new audiences on the Deezer platform.”

Simply put, Deezer is giving new musicians a way to reach more fans and perhaps more recognition globally. Deezer Next has helped Rag’N’Bone Man, Anne-Marie and Maggie Rogers gain exposure on the platform.

The question now is: which up and coming local artists can you actually find on Deezer?

First on the list is Dominic Neill who last year appeared on DJ Kent’s track Love You Still. He’s scheduled to release his debut album soon.

Next up is Durban based hip hop artist Raheem Kemet. To be frank, before today we hadn’t heard of this artist, but that’s the joy of Deezer Next, finding artists you may never have otherwise not heard.

Take a listen to Kemet’s track The Fire in the video below, it’s pretty spectacular.

Southern Wild is a four-piece rock band from Cape Town that you may find familiar. Confused? The reason you may find this lesser known band familiar is because the front man is David Van Vuuren who won Idols in 2011.

As a sort of confession we’ve been listening to Southern Wild for a while now and if you love blues then you should give them a listen.

The last artist joining Deezer Next for now is Robin Thirdfloor. This Durban rapper uses his personal experiences from being bullied to fuel his music. You can check out the video for Thirdfloor’s single Somdanger below.

All of these artists can be found on Deezer which you can use for free with an account. Sadly, the free tier is littered with ads so we’d recommend getting a Premium+ subscription for R59.99 per month or you can get the Family plan for R89.99.
