BioWare’s new game has been delayed

EA held its investor call for the end of the publisher’s 2017 fiscal year last night, and it contained some bad news for BioWare fans.

Apparently the developer’s newest game, which has been tentatively slated for release in March of next year, is being kicked back to the following fiscal year. This means it’ll only see release somewhere between April 2018 and March 2019.

The news isn’t all doom and gloom, however, as EA CEO Andrew Wilson intimated that the reason for this delay was due to a huge host of features being packed into BioWare’s next release.

“We’re very pleased with the progress of our new action IP from BioWare,” Wilson said.  “The design is stunning. Gameplay mechanics are excellent, and the action will be exhilarating.”

“The game is built around a live service, and through our creative process, we decided to add more to the disruptive new social design for our players. To accommodate that, we are moving the launch date for this project into fiscal year ’19.”

Okay, so any delay of BioWare’s new game isn’t exactly great news to wake up to. That having been said Wilsons comments reveal one or two tasty details.

First up, back in January, Wilson described BioWare’s new game as more “action-adventure” with some RPG elements. In the call last night he revealed that the game is built around ‘a live service’, which hints that it may be an action/MMO hybrid – much like, say, Ubisoft’s recent shooter/MMO, Tom Clancy’s: The Division.

Given the bugs and problems that heralded the release of that game, maybe it’s a good thing that BioWare’s next game is getting a lengthier development cycle.
