Hitman Season 2 may still be a going concern

Last week the rather lousy news broke that Square Enix was putting Hitman developer IO Interactive up for sale.

Not only was this rather a shock given the fact that last year’s Hitman reboot was arguably the best game ever made in this series, but it was a body blow for the Hitman faithful as both IO Interactive’s and Agent 47’s future were thrown into doubt. Many wondered whether or not the planned Hitman Season 2 would ever see the light of day.

Well, rejoice Hitman fans; news broke today on a German gaming website that we may not have seen the last of Agent 47. Gamestar claims that sources at the Danish developer say that IO Interactive retain the rights to the Hitman franchise. Not only that but the site claims these same sources say that the studio is already half way towards completing Hitman Season 2.

“We can not reveal any further details on the origin of this information, but we would like to state that the information is absolutely reliable and secure,” the report on Gamestar said.

Right now, this is all rumour and speculation, but hell, we’ll take what ever we can get. PCGamesN says that Gamestar is a pretty reliable site, so in the worst case scenario – that is, this all turns out to be rubbish – at least we’ll have someone to blame.

In the meantime, however, we’re hoping that some lovely publisher out there has both the sense and the cash on hand to pick up IO Interactive. Really, it can’t be that hard for the developer of the best game of last year to find a new home can it?
