Well here’s a strange turn of events. After the ridiculous success of Pokémon Go, the next mobile game to feature the licence will focus exclusively on Magikarp.
Magikarp Jump looks to be a simple game where players catch the titular Pokémon, take care of it and then have “battles” to see whose Magikarp can jump the highest.
If you’re wondering why we’re being so disparaging towards the derpy fish, it’s one of the weakest Pokémon across all of the titles in the franchise. The games themselves refer to it as “an underpowered, pathetic Pokémon“. Ouch.
Jumping as a main mechanics actually fits nicely here. Magikarp is based on the Asian carp and the legend of the dragon gate, in which a lowly fish can jump over a mystical gate and be transformed into a dragon.
In the game, references to Magikarp jumping around is abundant, and it will eventually evolve into Gyarados, which looks suspiciously like a dragon.
The app is available on both Android and iOS right now, well, for the rest of the world that is. For some stupid reason the game is not available in our country yet. We understood when this happened with Go as that game focused heavily on local environments. But this is just a time waster app, why lock it down?
If you really want to play the game right now, please remember not to download any sketchy APKs, the chance of getting malware is too high.
