Dead Cells may be the next Rogue indie hit

While we don’t usually like to talk too much about games in Steam’s Early Access, Dead Cells is already so good that you should pay attention to it now, or at least add it to your Steam wishlist for later.

This game by new studio Motion Twin looks to be a strictly better version of the superb game Rogue Legacy. What we have here is a hack and slash platformer with roguelite/like elements.

What makes Dead Cells different is how well is pulls all of that off. The art style is superb, the combat flows incredibly well when you get the hang of it and there’s a seamless gameplay loop which is especially important for any game with elements of Rogue.

The only real problem with the game, it seems, is that it is in Early Access. Motion Twin states that it will be this way for between 8 and 12 months, so it could be up to a year’s wait if you want the final version.

Right now the game is selling for R182 on Steam.

We highly suggest you check out some gameplay on YouTube as a substitute for playing it if you’re with us in the boat waiting for the real release. Northernlion has a series on it we can recommend, check it out below.
