Gigaba’s Wikipedia page edited to feature snarky references to “Zupta” rulership

[UPDATE as at 3:30pm; The page has been edited back to the original]

After being reportedly exposed in a scandal that has become known as the #GuptaLeaks, Minister of Finance, Malusi Gigaba’s Wikipedia page has been edited to feature some, err, interesting details about his recent political career.

We’re not sure exactly when this happened, but the name of President Jacob Zuma, the names of ministries Gigaba previously served at and even his place of death (um, he’s still alive) have been altered to make reference to the Zupta rulership, as famously coined by EFF political party.

The edit was probably done during this week when Daily Maverick began publishing a series of exposes that reveal the extent of corrupt dealings the controversial family is said to be engaged in.

One of these involves Gigaba, while he was at the helm of the Home Affairs Department.

This is what his Wikipedia page currently looks like, pay attention to the bio block on the right:

This isn’t the first time Gigaba has fallen prey to fast fingers of Wikipedia vandals. In March, when he was appointed to his new post, a small but significant edit was made to the page, when his English name was changed from “Knowledge” to “Ignorance”.

The first edit was eventually changed back to the original. We wonder how long the latest edit will last.
