Business Printer Roundup – Which is right for you?

OKI MC853

Big printer, big specs
Up until this point we’ve looked at printers that function well with a small staff contingent that don’t require all that much printing, but what if your workforce has extraordinary printing needs?

The OKI MC853 is an A4/A3 printer that prints at a speed of 23 pages per minute and boasts a time of just 14 seconds to the first print emerging.

While that’s good news for teams of up to 25 people who need to print a lot, and fast, it’s the printer’s paper-handling capacity that really impresses: the MC853 can accommodate up to 2005 sheets of paper thanks to its auto sensing, multi-purpose tray that can print on anything from A6 to 1.3m long banners and on paper stock of up to 256gsm.

Much larger teams can print without worrying they’ll need to refill the paper tray every ten minutes.

Connectivity is handled via LAN and Wi-Fi so you won’t need to fuss about cables unless you plan on using the MC853 for faxing.

What’s more is that OKI’s printer should work well with other office equipment because it sports the firm’s smart Extendable Platform. This system allows the printer to sit at the heart of document workflows and more importantly, integrates smartly with third party document management solutions.

Sadly the MC853’s failing is its scanner. While it can scan to PDF, JPEG, XPS, TIFF and secure PDF its low 600 x 600 dpi resolution means you won’t be able to create searchable PDFs. What the OKI does do however is build complete documents with its automatic document feeder that scans multi-page documents unattended.

This printer also supports high capacity toners which will reduce the amount you spend on prints between refills.
