Kyocera FS-9130DN
For heavy-duty printing
This printer is described as a “small office printer” but at 68kg, it’s anything but.
That said the Kyocera FS-9130DN needs to be as big as it is to reach the speeds it can. Printing on one side, the 9130DN is able reach speeds of 40 pages per minute with A4 prints and 23 pages per minute with A3 prints.
Printing on both sides of a page will net speeds of 33 and 16 pages per minute for A4 and A3 prints respectively.
As you can tell this printer is designed to be a workhorse and as such it’s devoid of many of the functions we’ve dealt with thus far such as scanning and faxing. If all you need is printing, Kyocera is your first port of call.
While WiFi and the ability to scan searchable PDFs are out, there are a number of functions present in the FS-9130DN that would suit a business.
For instance if you are a larger small business with various departments and you want to keep track of who is printing, you can programme up to 100 department codes into this printer.
The Kyocera also sports a Private print function for documents that you might not want your entire staffing contingent to see.
Something that does return from previous printers is the ability to print directly from a USB drive though your files will need to be in PDF format to accomplish this.
For particularly heavy applications, an optional hard disk can be fitted to insure the printer’s job management functionality doesn’t collapse in on itself, of course this would only be required in the most extreme use cases.
A printer this size requires a lot of power, at least that’s what you would think. While printing the FS-9130DN will use approximately 710W which while heavy is less than many hair dryers use. In stand-by mode that power consumption drops to 160W and in sleep-mode it uses a paltry 4.5W.
Kyocera’s printer then is large, but if that’s what you need it’s a good starting block.
