Sony’s Xperia XZ Premium gets a July launch window

For those that didn’t want Samsung’s Galaxy S8, or LG’s G6, your patience has been rewarded as Sony announces the local availability of the XZ Premium.

The handset was announced at MWC 2017 where it won the Best New Mobile, Tablet or Device award.

That award is rather well placed when you take a deep dive into the XZ Premium internals.

Sony has selected the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset as the brains for the handset which I think was more of a requirement than a “nice to have”.

The reason for that is because the XZ Premium boasts a 5.5inch display that features a UHD (3840 x 2860) resolution and support for High Dynamic Range.

Add to that a 19MP rear camera with the ability to record video at 960 frames per second for incredible slow-motion footage and you’ll need the fast connectivity Qualcomm’s flagship platform offers.

Now for the price.

The Sony Xperia XZ Premium will retail for R14 999 cash and operators will have the handset available on contract when the phone launches this month.

As to the exact release day, we’re working hard to get your a solid date so your money doesn’t burn a hole in your pocket.

That said, if R14 999 is too dear for you perhaps you should consider the XZ which is available for just over R8 000 and impressed me a lot when I reviewed it last year.
