htxtafricast – Streaming vs traditional TV: A discussion with htxt, ASUS and Showmax

Another week, another htxt.africast, and this week we’ve got something a bit special for you: joining myself and Deon du Plessis for the africast this week is Head of Communications at Showmax Richard Boorman, and the Country Product Manager over at ASUS South Africa, Peter Chang.

We discuss video streaming in South Africa, and try to find out if it’s really as easy to set it up in your home as some would have you believe. We also chat about some of the pitfalls of streaming versus paying for a bouquet of channels… chief among which is a distinct lack of sport.

Now we need to put a disclaimer here, for no reason other than to be up front with you: the link to the story we discuss in this podcast was a sponsored post commissioned by ASUS that we ran a few weeks ago. That post is no longer being paid for and as such you won’t find it unless you search through our site because we keep all our sponsored posts online.

And while this podcast does contain an advert (something we’ve done a few times before), the content of the podcast was not scripted or paid for. What you will hear today is a casual discussion, pure and simple, between us and two people with a unique perspective on streaming video in South Africa.

In fact, it’s something we’d like to do more of in future – involve spokespeople from various tech companies in future podcasts, with the intention of picking their well-informed brains about topics we believe our listeners will find interesting.

We hope that this clarifies things, and if it hasn’t, please don’t hesitate to drop us a mail.

We hope you enjoy this edition of the htxt.africast, and if there’s a particular topic you would like us to discuss in the future, be sure to let us know.
