ICASA CEO placed on precautionary suspension

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) has today said that its current chief executive officer Pakamile Pongwana has been placed on precautionary suspension.

The suspension may or may not be lifted once an internal disciplinary process has been concluded. The reason for the internal disciplinary process is not clear at time of writing.

We have contacted ICASA and we will be sure to update this story once we receive a reply.

In Pongwana’s absence, chief operations officer Willington Ngwepe will act as CEO until such time that the internal processes have been concluded.

UPDATE

We have heard back from ICASA which has told us, “this is an internal matter which Council is currently dealing with. Any details shall be communicated when the need arises and/or as per Council decision.”
