Since its launch in March of this year, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has seen amazing sales with millions of copies sold already, and this did not slow down during the Steam Summer Sale.
According to unofficial source Steam Spy, the game gained 669 495 new owners between 22nd June and 5th July – the length of the Steam Summer Sale.
This is especially impressive when you consider that, unlike most of the games on the platform during this time, Battlegrounds was not discounted and was selling for its full price of $29.99.
The developers of the game may have chosen to leave it at full price due to the fact that it’s still so new and in Early Access, or because they were already selling so much that they didn’t see a need to discount it. Probably the latter.
When we asked around on social media about what everyone was looking forward to buying during the Summer Sale, the unanimous response seemed to be Battlegrounds. The fact that the game remained at the top of Steam’s Top Sellers list probably helped too.
The next three titles on that list when we last checked were: Grand Theft Auto V, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Nier: Automata. During the same time period those games sold 285 548, 944 489 and 107 164 copies respectively.
These numbers may be a bit skewed because we looked at entire days instead of the exact start and end times of the sale, but it’s close enough to give you a good idea of the vast amounts of games that were sold.
