Destiny 2 console open beta announced

The 21st day of this month is shaping up to be a busy day for gamers.

If you’re in Johannesburg, you can get yourself down to the Sandton Convention Centre for the esports event Rush, and if that doesn’t appeal to you, a new Half-Life comic will appear on Steam that very same day.

If that weren’t enough videogame shenanigans for one day, Destiny players should mark their calendars for 21 July too. This is because Destiny 2’s open beta will land on consoles on that day.

The beta will run from 21 to 23 July and according to a press release from Activision, it’ll feature the game’s opening mission, Homecoming, as well as co-op strike and PVP multiplayer modes.

For some idea of what to expect, have a gander at the trailer below.

Now, if 21 July feels like it’s too far away, players do have a means to get into the beta even earlier. Pre-order early access to the beta lands on PS4 on 18 July while Xbox One players can get into it the following day.

So it looks like a weekend filled with gaming for all you folk out there – although having to choose between Rush and the Destiny 2 open beta does feel a little bit like fate messing with all of us. What choice will you make between the two? Let us know in the comments below or on Twitter or Facebook.

Destiny 2 launches globally on Xbox One and PS4 on 6 September 2017.
