The second expansion for Hearthstone’s Year of the Mammoth has been revealed and this time players are headed to the icy region of Northrend.

The expansion is out in August and everybody dies. No really.

The Knights of the Frozen Throne will feature 135 cards and each class will get a new card type, Hero Cards.

Hero cards will change your hero into a Death Knight (not exactly what we were hoping for but we’ll take it) and replace your hero power. Deathstalker Rexxar for instance costs 6-mana and has the Battlecry “Deal 2 damage to all enemy minions”. The undead Hunter’s hero power changes to Build-A-Beast which allows players to discover two beasts and “stitch” them together to create a new beast with the HP and attack values of each beast combined. Think Void Terror but just a bit more over-powered.

As one might imagine, death abounds in Northrend and according to lead game designer Ben Brode, The Knights of the Frozen Throne will feature a boat-load of Deathrattle cards. Shallow Gravedigger is a 3-mana minion with 3/1 stats and the Deathrattle, “Add a random Deathrattle minion to your hand.”

Does this mean that Priest quest may actually be viable in ladder?

There is also a new keyword – Lifesteal. As you might imagine, when a minion attacks, players will get that attack value back as HP but the keyword is also being attached to spells. Spirit Lash is a new Priest spell that deals 1 damage to all minions, hopefully this means a player heals for the damage done to all minions.

Players will also be able to play missions , all of which are free to play. There are eight bosses to defeat including The Lich King himself and players will be rewarded with a Legendary Death Knight card.

Pre-purchases start today and 50 packs will cost you €49.99 (R767.54) and you’ll get a free card back.

You can check out the full announcement (short as it was) in the video below.

Oh and Ben Brode, seeing as this cinematic didn’t have a song, we expect you to rap again.
