Sony Playstation’s newly released 4.72 firmware update for PS4 released a little more than 2 days ago and weighed in at around 340MB. The update, while addressing “system performance” seemingly also caused a new bug to pop up.
Users are encountering a strange issue where they show up as offline despite being online. Changing your settings from offline mode back to online is of no help either. This of course is a major issue considering that you need to be online to play multiplayer games or send and receive game invites from your friends.
Power cycling your router and PS4 console is a possible solution being suggested but user reports currently indicate that results are varied.

At the time of writing, Sony have not confirmed if this is a known issue with the firmware or if it’s a server side problem with the Sony Entertainment Network. As it stands right now though, depending on what game you’re playing and how it handles offline mode, you may lose access to certain features even though you are actually online.
