VS Gaming set to partner with Orlando Pirates esports

Later this week VS Gaming will host its first esports tournament at Gallagher Convention Centre and it will be bringing a partner, Orlando Pirates.

The local football team announced plans to create an esports division recently and VS Gaming is happy to oblige by providing the team with players.

At the VS Gaming Festival this weekend, the top ten players will not only get a share of a R1.5m prize pool but they will also earn a one year contract with Orlando Pirates esports.

“We are delighted to be partnering with Orlando Pirates, one of South Africa’s iconic football teams for the tournament, which will bring together over a thousand e-football enthusiasts to battle it out for a prize-pool of R1,5 million,” VS Gaming chief executive officer Cambridge Mokanyane said in a statement.

The players will also get access to the VS Gaming venue in Midrand as well as hardware support.

“We look forward to further growth in this exciting industry as we create a vibrant spectator culture across South Africa,” Orlando Pirates brand activation manager Tokoloho Moeketsi said.

Orlando Pirates joins the likes of Manchester City, West Ham United and Paris Saint Germain all of which have esports teams.

Now, if VS Gaming could stop calling it e-Football that would be great. It’s esports, not eDota or eCSGO, just esports or do we need Paul Chaloner to explain it to you?
