PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds surpasses five million sales

The newest battle royale game on the block, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, continues its impressive sales streak by crossing the five million mark.

Unofficial source Steam Spy currently indicates that 5 053 512 copies have been sold as of 20th July 2017.

This comes after more than 600K people bought the game during the Steam Summer Sale, despite the fact that it was not discounted.

To give this number of sales some context, another game that was in the news recently for surpassing a milestone is 2016’s DOOM, which sold more than two million copies on Steam.

While we’re sure consoles sales of that title may bring it closer to Battlegrounds’ number, it’s amazing that this Early Access game has managed to outsell a AAA title from one of the most famous developer & publisher pairs.

It gets even more impressive when you consider that DOOM has been out for more than a year, and Battlegrounds was released less than five months ago.

In a fairer comparison, H1Z1: King of the Kill has sold 6 300 846 copies, and Rust has sold 5 613 579. Again, these games have been out for a much longer period, so keep that in mind.
