Rush, VS and Destiny 2: You have a packed weekend of gaming

You know what they say: “you wait for a decent weekend of gaming and then three events come along at once.”

Well, they don’t say that, really. But if they did they could point to this weekend as proof. For today and tomorrow players have some pretty sweet events to get stuck into, and their only problem is working out how much time to allot for each.

First up, you have the Rush esports gathering that’s taking place in the Sandton Convention Centre. It kicked off yesterday, but there’s still oodles of fun to be had for anyone who makes the trip down there this weekend.

There are three main stages  showcasing players battle it out on League of Legends, Fifa 17 and CS:GO.

There’s a Street Fighter V tournament and if you potter around a bit you’ll find a gorgeous Hearthstone Tavern that’s been set up by Kwese (no, they’re not selling tankards of beer, but there’s a coffee shop and food stalls nearby). You can also take part in a Hearthstone or WOW tournaments here with R30 000 of cash prizes on offer.

On top of that you have booths selling swag, arcade machines with Metal Slug and a NAG LAN event that takes over about a quarter of them. Bring your rig and sleeping bag if that’s your thing.

Over in Midrand, the VS Gaming Festival is taking place at the same time. We at htxt.africa haven’t been down there yet, but the press materials promise a weekend of fun for gamers of all ages and skill levels. The big draw here is the Fifa 17 tournament in with players competing for a prize pool totalling R1.5 million. There will also be a ton of celebrities wandering about including  Tendai Ndoro, DJ Fresh, Euphonik, Rob Forbes, Riky Rick, Cassper Nyovest and more. Oh, it’s child friendly, so you can bring the whole family.

Finally, if you don’t fancy getting off the couch this weekend, the Destiny 2 Beta went live globally for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players yesterday.

If you’re a fan, you’re probably already playing it. If not, here’s a brief breakdown on what to expect and we’ve already posted our first impressions on the site too.

All told, players have a busy weekend ahead of them!
