Over 1 000 esports fans attended the VS Gaming Festival

The VS Gaming Festival held at the weekend was (by all accounts) a rather successful event.

The event called on esports fans to participate in or watch some FIFA action.

VS Gaming reports that as many as 1 024 gamers entered Gallagher Estate at the weekend to play FIFA or attend “the largest e-football tournament in Africa.”

“We couldn’t be prouder of what took place this weekend. As the first of its kind we put on a spectacular show and brought esports to the everyday South African,” said VS Gaming chief executive officer Cambridge Mokanyane.

The big draw of VS Gaming for many was the R1.5 million prize pool it was offering up to participants. The winner of the event was Zuhair Ebrahim Ebrahim who won R500 000.

The runners up were Brandon Nell, Tebogo Mathopa and Muhammad Zaid Patel, who each won R250 000, R100 000 and R50 000 respectively.

In fact VS Gaming’s split of the prize pool saw all participants placing 17th and up receiving R15 000. Not bad for a weekend of gaming and if that wasn’t enough, the top ten also get a spot on the Orlando Pirates esports team.

“By showcasing the final matches on SuperSport, the top ten joining the Orlando Pirates esports team and by making this competition open to the public, shows we are keeping our promise to make esports open to all who want to play,” says Mokanyane

Local celebrities also participated with winners getting R15 000 that will be donated to a charity of their choice.

Congratulations to VS Gaming for a stellar event and if you missed out on attending Rush we didn’t and managed to bring you a snap shot of what you missed.
