LG’s V30 will sport the first ever plastic OLED display

Earlier this year LG showed us its muscle with the G6 which is simply superb and so we’ve been waiting with eager anticipation for news about the next flagship the V30.

Today LG has treated us to some news about the V30’s display and its interesting to say the least.

The smartphone will feature a plastic OLED display. Why plastic? Well LG says that the substrate it uses is stronger than a glass base and the image burn-in usually associated with OLED displays is eliminated.

There is another reason that LG might be opting for plastic – curves.

“Because the screen in the upcoming smartphone will be based on plastic OLED technology – also known as P-OLED – the edges can be curved to allow for a more ergonomic design and a better feel in the hand,” LG said in a statement.

While not an explicit declaration that the V30 will have curved edges the image included in the statement suggests that we will see curves in all the right places.

LG teases the V30.

The smartphone will also be smaller than last years V20 (which we loved) while still housing a six inch display.

The LG logo has been removed from the front face and the bottom and top bezels have been reduced by 50 and 20 percent respectively.

The display will have a QHD+ (1440 x 2880p) resolution, support for HDR10 for better contrast and 148% of the sRGB colour space is covered.

Overall the V30 looks like it’s primed for mobile virtual reality and we can’t wait to find out more when the smartphone is revealed on 31st August.
