SA to kick off National Science Week

The Department of Science and Technology will kick off National Science Week (NSW) tomorrow in port Elizabeth.

NSW is an annual celebration of science, engineering and technology, attracting thousands of learners and members of the public to workshops, science shows and lectures, which are held at universities, schools, science centres and public facilities countrywide.

This year’s National Science Week will be held from 5 to 12 August under the theme “Advancing science tourism”, in recognition of the United Nation’s International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development.

Minister of Science and Technology, Naledi Pandor, will launch the 2017 National Science Week (NSW) at Nelson Mandela University’s Missionvale Campus in Port Elizabeth on Saturday afternoon.

The launch at Nelson Mandela University is expected to attract about 3 500 learners, 600 students and academics, and a further 1 000 participants, including teachers, the general public and policy makers.

The list of activities to be hosted across the country are sure to keep pupils and the public very engaged with all things science. You can look up a NSW event near you on the Department of Science and Technology’s website.
