Showmax and VAST offer customers free downloads and streaming

When Showmax introduced downloads for offline viewing we were joyous and cautious.

Our caution was there in part because of the cost of mobile data and while downloading can be less data intensive than streaming, you still need data.

Well today VAST Networks and Showmax have announced that Showmax customers can download or stream as much as they want at 83 of VAST’s Wifi hotspots throughout South Africa without spending a cent on data.

“Once you log onto one of the VAST Wi-Fi sites, download up to 25 TV shows or movies and the data won’t cost you a cent. Get your groceries at the shops and come home with the week’s entertainment sorted,” head of Showmax Africa Chris Savides said in a statement.

This zero-rating is going to be trialed for the next three months so we advise you take advantage of this offer as soon as you can. Showmax has even compiled a map that will help you find a VAST hotspot near you.

“With entertainment being one of the most sought-after content types, we are very excited to play a role in addressing this need and providing consumers with wider access to relevant content,” said VAST Networks chief executive officer Grant Marais.

It’s worth remembering that Showmax offers a 14-day trial if you can’t afford the R99 monthly fee and this seems like a decent way to download and catch up on some shows you might have missed, for free.
