More than 12 000 org.za domains will be deleted next week

The ZA Central Registry (ZACR) will delete as many as 12 613 org.za domains on 1st September.

South Africa’s domain name administrator has said that it will delete the domains following a two year push to get the owners of these org.za domains to switch over from the ZACR Legacy platform to the EPP platform.

The ZACR suspended some 15 420 domains in 2016 for failing to switch. These domains will be deleted come 1st September.

“The unfortunate spectre of thousands of domain name deletions is looming over the local domain name industry and it’s entirely avoidable. We urge those org.za domain name owners who have not yet heeded our many requests to migrate to ZACR-Accredited Registrars to do so without delay,” said ZACR chief executive officer Lucky Masilela.

Owners of org.za domains that have not yet contacted accredited ZACR registrars to make the switch to the EPP platform have just seven days to do so.

Should the owners fail to register before that date the domains will be made available for re-registration on a first-come, first-served basis.
