Xbox One X South African release date still unconfirmed

Ever since the Xbox One X preorders opened and the console’s release date was announced at Gamescom (that would be 7th November), local gamers have been wondering if South Africa would be included in its global launch.

Well, this morning Microsoft released a statement that gives cause for both optimism and possible disappointment. Apparently Microsoft want the Xbox One X to drop in South Africa at the same time as the rest of the world this November, but there’s some red tape standing in the way at present.

Microsoft says that the clearance certification for the Xbox One X in South Africa is still in the approval process and hasn’t been finalised at the time of this writing. Until this process has been finished, Microsoft says it can’t confirm a local release date – and that includes both retail release and preorders.

“Ensuring that Xbox One X gets into the South African market as close to global release as possible is our main priority. We remain committed to our Xbox fans in South Africa,” said Colin Baumgart, Consumer Director for Microsoft South Africa.

We can only hope that the process moves along speedily, but given the pace of local bureaucracy we’re not exactly holding our collective breath.
