Nothing to see here: SA media gives Hlaudi the cold shoulder

South African news houses have, for the most part, ignored attention-hungry Hlaudi Motsoeneng and are not covering his press briefing scheduled for today.

It was announced in statement yesterday that Motsoeneng would be holding a briefing to discuss a number of issues like the 90% local music quota, the SABC Interim board and revenue at the public broadcaster.

The last time Motsoeneng held a press conference, media came out in droves to cover the four-hour long event.

This time however, there seems to be only three news houses, ANN7, News24 and EWN, who are reporting live.

There are no livestreams on YouTube and no live crossings on TV channels.

This could be a show of the media’s disinterest in listening to him, especially since he no longer works at the SABC, as well as the desire to no longer feed the monster. Anyone who has watched Motsoeneng’s previous briefings will know he loves being in the spotlight.

If you’re interested in following the presser, see News24’s Amanda Khoza and EWN Twitter accounts.
