A MAZE. / Johannesburg 2017 returns this month

Few local events get us as excited as the A MAZE. / Johannesburg , and it’s returning in 2017 this September.

If this is your first time hearing about it, the unique event is a blend of videogames, interactive media and more from both local artists and those abroad. It forms part of the Fak’ugesi Digital Innovation Festival and you can take part from the 13th to the 16th of September.

For a quick taste check out our must-play list from 2016.

htxt.africa will, of course, have full coverage of all the best parts of both A MAZE. / Johannesburg and Fak’ugesi, but we really suggest you attend in person so you can see and play absolutely everything.

Don’t be put off by the higher end price listed in the details below. There are two ticket types (“Supporter” at R1 500 and “Friendly Ghost” at R15 000) which are intended to help keep the event going, and to cover the travel expenses of getting more African developers to the festival.

If you’re not a company or a wealthy individual, a single-day pass costs R250, and all three days cost R750. Students will be paying R125 and R375 respectively. There’s also a host of other tickets at the link below.

Finally, to end off, here’s a gallery of images from past addition of the the event. These were thoughtfully provided by Ben Myres. You may know Myres as one of the developers working on Semblance – the first South African game coming to the Nintendo Switch – but he’s also the program manager for A MAZE. / Johannesburg.
