Apple will likely debut the next iPhone this month

As the calendar rolls over to September the tech world begins to ramp up anticipation of the next iPhone.

Like clockwork Apple has sent out an invitation for a special event on 12th September. The event will be the first ever to be held in the Steve Jobs Theater.

While Apple hasn’t expressly said the event will feature the latest iPhone, history teaches us that, at around this time every year, the firm shows off its newest handset.

As per usual, Apple has been playing its cards close to its chest so any word about what the next iPhone may look like or the features it will have is purely a matter of speculation at this point.

So let’s see what speculations are currently circling around.

First up Bloomberg reports that the new Apple flagship will house a 3D sensor that users can use to log into their handset by scanning their face. It sounds a lot more secure than Samsung’s facial recognition which could be fooled with a xerox of your face.

This information comes to us via “people familiar with the product” so take it with a grain of salt.

Next up WCCFTech has said that perhaps Apple will use the event to show off a new Apple TV with support for HDR and 4K, which would be rather nice.

Other rumours include not just two iPhone models but three including one with 6.46-inch display that will only be released in 2018.

There are also rumours that the handset will sport an edge-to-edge display and (finally) feature wireless charging.

We’re going to have to wait a few weeks to find out which of those rumours are true and which we can keep wishing for.
